How does Planted work?

Planted is a community for plant lovers. Discover plants, document your collection, share photos and connect with other enthusiasts.

🧭

Step by step

Want to know exactly how something works? The guides explain it step by step.

🌿

Discover plants, cultivars & hybrids

Planted contains thousands of plants, organised by family and genus. You can search by scientific name, common name or family. Besides species you will also find cultivars (cultivated varieties with an official cultivar name) and hybrids (crosses between two plants or cultivars).

Document your collection

Add plants to My Plants to keep track of what you have. Is something on your wishlist? Add it as a wishlist item and move it to your collection once you have bought it.

Want to divide your plants further? Create a collection — for example “Araceae room”, “Balcony garden” or “To swap” — and add plants and hybrids to it.

Keep track of your plants

For each plant you keep track of your specimens: where they come from, where they are, in which pot and which medium. In the care log you note watering, fertilising, repotting, flowering or pests. With a schedule for watering and fertilising you get a reminder when it is time, and in a journal you follow growth with photos and measurements.

Plan your garden

Turn a place outdoors or a greenhouse into a garden, with beds per season. Plan when you sow, plant out and harvest, helped by the growing calendar, and keep track of how much you harvest.

📸

Share your photos

Upload photos of your plants and link them to a species, cultivar or hybrid. The community can vote on the most beautiful photos — the most popular one appears at the top.

Your own photos can always be found on your profile page.

Register hybrids

Did you make a cross yourself or do you know an interesting hybrid? Add it via the Hybrids tab on the plant list. You choose two parents (plant, cultivar or another hybrid), and Planted generates a name automatically. You can also enter your own name and notes.

Add common names

Do you know a common name for a plant in Dutch, English or French? You can add a common name on every plant page. Together we enrich the database and make searching easier for everyone.

✍️

Write blogs

Share your knowledge and experience in a blog. You can link a blog post to one or more plants, cultivars or hybrids — that way your article automatically appears on the related pages.

Add photos to your post, use tags to make your article easy to find, and comment on blogs by others.

🤝

Community & profiles

View the profiles of other users, see which plants they have and follow their collections. Write blogs about your plant experiences or read the News for updates about the app.
